City and HydroCorp to replace water meters at no cost

This project includes transitioning from Sensus water meters to Badger Meters equipped with ORION cellular endpoints (new meter pictured). This will allow for enhanced reading accuracy and reliability.

"Upgrading our utility infrastructure to Badger Meter technology is a major step forward for Charles City. By pairing these new meters with the EyeOnWater app, we are giving our residents the tools they need to help manage their water usage," said Cory Spieker, water superintendent for the City of Charles City.

By registering on the EyeOnWater app or EyeOnWater.com, residents will be able to closely monitor their water usage, with readings able to be broken down from hourly to monthly. To register, residents will need to enter their utility account number as it appears on their bill.

Residents will also be able to set custom water consumption alerts, which monitors issues with continuous flow or an unusual spike in usage. Through the app or website, users are notified immediately, preventing high bills and water waste.

Upgrades will take place systematically across the city. Approximately 800 property owners will receive advance notification by mail with details on how to schedule an installation appointment with HydroCorp. Indoor meter access is required. After HydroCorp has installed these 800 new meters and readers, Charles City Water Treatment Plant staff will continue the installation process over the next few years until all meters have been upgraded.
