On Saturday, September 26th, I'll be lacing up my shoes and walking alongside neighbors and friends at the Walk to End Alzheimer's. This one is personal for me.
My mother's memory shaped who I am today. Alzheimer's took pieces of her from our family long before it took her from us entirely. Anyone who has watched a parent slip away like that knows the particular kind of grief involved. You mourn someone who is still sitting right in front of you.
That's why I walk. Not just to remember her, but to push back against a disease that still has no cure.
Why This Cause Matters to Our North Iowa Community
Alzheimer's doesn't check zip codes. Families across Mason City, Clear Lake, and every corner of North Iowa are living with this disease right now, caring for parents and spouses who need help remembering names, faces, and moments that once felt permanent.
At Jane Fischer & Associates, we've spent over three decades helping North Iowa families find homes and build roots in this community. Real estate is about people first. Houses come second. When a client tells me they're searching for a home because their aging parent needs to move closer to family, or because they're downsizing after a difficult diagnosis, I understand that struggle in a way that goes beyond business.
Community means showing up for each other, whether that's helping someone sell a home in North Iowa during a hard season of life or walking a few miles on a Saturday morning for a cause that matters.
What Your Support Makes Possible
Every dollar raised through the Walk to End Alzheimer's goes toward research, care resources, and support for families navigating this disease. Progress against Alzheimer's requires funding, and funding requires people willing to step up.
You don't need to walk the full route to make a difference. A donation, a shared social media post, or simply showing up to cheer on participants all count. If you've ever watched someone you love struggle with memory loss, you already understand why this fight is worth having.
How You Can Get Involved
Join me on September 26th. Walk with me, donate to the cause, or reach out if you want more details about the event location and time.
You can find updates and information through our social media pages, including Facebook and Instagram. Feel free to call us at 641-424-4663 or email jane@janefischer.com if you'd like to team up, donate, or just learn more about how to get involved.
My mother taught me that showing up for people is what life is really about. This September, I'm asking you to show up for this cause the way North Iowa always shows up for its own.
Thank you for considering joining the fight. Every step counts, and so does every bit of support you're willing to give.
