For Iowans who live in some of the most rural parts of the state, finding convenient access to high-quality healthcare can be a challenge. Hospitals, clinics and treatment centers may be hard to get to, and the facilities that are closest to home may not offer the specific services that you need.
That’s where Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics step in to fill the gap.
“In the larger metropolitan areas, patients usually expect to see all kinds of different medical specialties, but not so much in the smaller, more out-of-the-way settings,” said Iowa Specialty Clinics – Mason City leader Samantha Gappa.
The recent opening of this new Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics outreach clinic in Mason City on April 1, 2026, expands access to care even further for clients who are looking for family medicine practitioners; podiatry, psychiatric, orthopedic, sports medicine and gastroenterology providers; or radiology and lab services.
“We are excited to expand our services and welcome patients to our new location,” said Steve Simonin, president and CEO of Iowa Specialty Hospitals and Clinics. “The Iowa Specialty Clinic in Mason City is an exciting step in our investment in the North Iowa community and a perfect example of how we continue to evolve to meet our patients’ needs.”
“Throughout our system of clinics, we are able to provide a wide range of top-notch specialty care such as orthopedics, weight loss/bariatrics, and obstetrics to those communities. However, we’re always happy to refer to other facilities if it means that someone is able to get the care they need,” Gappa said. “We want to do whatever’s best for the patient every step of the way.”
The hospitals have enjoyed a long, steady presence in the state, first with Clarion in 1951, then with Belmond in 1952. Through a 2012 collaboration that formed Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics, the system has enjoyed progressive growth into a full network of campuses and outreach clinics across the north-central region.
Prospective patients for any Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics location, including Mason City, can call 844.474.4321 to be directed to the location and provider that best fits their unique care criteria, or they can explore their options through the organization’s website by clicking the “Become a Patient” tab.
“We have a program called ReDoc, which stands for ‘re-doctoring,’ that can walk them through the process of finding a new provider or facility,” Gappa said. “It’s an online submission form that goes directly to our team of coordinators, and then they will contact you by phone or email to get you all set up.”
Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics accept a number of major insurance plans. Self-pay options and financial assistance are also available. To learn more, go to iowaspecialtyhospital.com.
