Clear Lake 38, Waverly-Shell Rock 29

WAVERLY — Behind a strong defense and big third-quarter run, Clear Lake worked past Waverly-Shell Rock Monday night 38-29.

Clear Lake’s Lexi Fasbender drained four 3-pointers and led all scorers with 16 points.

“They took a lead in the middle of the third and then we had some nice plays from there,” Clear Lake coach Bart Smith said. “Ali Maulsby made a 3 to put us up two, and from there we just kind of got some good stops and got good looks at the other end.”

Sara Faber added six points for the Lions and Zoey Fasbender and Gretchen Jones scored five apiece.

Clear Lake (2-0) plays at West Fork tonight.

Clarksville 38, Rockford 34

CLARKSVILLE — Clarksville held off a fourth-quarter surge by Rockford Monday night to pick up a 38-34 victory.

Rockford, which trailed by nine entering the fourth, brought the deficit within four points before the game ended. Jamie Schuster led the Lady Warriors with 10 points while Jenna Paulus and Amber Reams added seven apiece.

Kori Wedeking and Janet Borchardt led the Indians with 10 apiece.

Other score: GHV 67, Charles City 58.


NIACC 95, Luther JV 68

DECORAH — Nick Wurm scored a game-high 23 points Monday night as NIACC picked up a 95-68 win over the Luther junior varsity.

Gary Mills added 15 points for the Trojans, Jaycob Payne chipped in 10 and Jalen Lucas and Orrington Hamilton scored nine apiece.

NIACC (7-1) plays at Southeastern on Wednesday.


Iowa State's Hillegas named Big 12 Libero of the Year

AMES – The Iowa State volleyball team was well represented in the Big 12’s postseason honors, anncouned by the conference Monday afternoon.

Hali Hillegas was named the Big 12 Libero of the Year, marking the ninth time in the last 10 years ISU has received the honor. Hillegas also made the All-Big 12 First Team along with Jess Schaben and Samara West. Avery Rhodes was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Hillegas resumes Iowa State’s hold of the Big 12 Libero of the Year award after the Cyclones’ eight-year run ended last season. Hillegas also picked up her first career All-Big 12 First Team honor. The redshirt sophomore from Charles City leads the Big 12 and ranks 15th in the NCAA with her 5.61 digs per set. She has had at least 10 digs in every match this season, and has had 13 matches with at least 20 digs.


NIACC sets school 3-pointer record in win

MASON CITY | The NIACC women's basketball team made school history on Sunday afternoon.

One day after tying the school's single-game 3-point record, the Lady Trojans (9-0) broke the school mark with 23 3-point goals in a 105-73 victory over the Grand View University Junior Varsity in the final game of the 3-day Thanksgiving Challenge in the NIACC gym.

Sophomore guard UU Longs hit the record-breaking three-pointer from the left corner with less than a minute to play in the contest.

NIACC tied the old record of 22 in Saturday night's 112-57 win over Lake Region State College. In the 3-day holiday tournament, the Lady Trojans connected on 57 3-point goals.

NIACC has 133 3-point goals this season (14.7 per game).

On Sunday, Cici Kieger, who led the Lady Trojans with 23 points, made five 3-pointers. Shayley Vesel and Mikayla Homola both made 4 four 3-point goals.

The Lady Trojans also received three 3s from Longs, two from Selena Shady and one each from Adria Stewart, Kelsie Willert, Lakin Joerger, Laker Ward and Tahya Campbell.

Homola scored 17 points, Longs scored 16 points and Vesel also reached double figures with 12 points
