WEST DES MOINES| Mason City managed to grab a win over No. 1 in Class 4A Dowling Catholic in its doubleheader on Tuesday, June 12.
The Mohawks won the first game 5-2 behind Harrison Nagel on the mound. Nagel allowed five hits, two earned runs and no walks.
Dawson Wedeking swung for the fences, knocking a two-run home run and adding another hit to total three RBIs . Nate Lassise added an RBI double.
Dowling Catholic took the second game of the night, 8-5. Ryan Smuck put together a 2-for-4 performance for two RBIs.
“Harrison Nagel was fantastic on the mound,” head coach Troy Rood said. “He threw a 64-pitch complete game. We played outstanding defense behind him all night for all 21 outs."
High School Baseball: Northwood-Kensett grabs extra inning victory over North Iowa

BUFFALO CENTER| Northwood-Kensett’s 16-6 victory over North Iowa on Tuesday, June 12 was closer than the scoreboard shows.
The Vikings and Bison were tied 5-5 through seven innings, but the Vikings would score 11 runs in the 10th to grab a decisive victory.
Gavin Varner shot two doubles in his 3-for-6 attempt at bat for six RBIs in the win. Caden Schrage also added a double in his 4-for-6 performance for three RBIs. Cade Hengesteg went 3 for 4 for two RBIs, including a double.
High School Softball: Rockford dominates Clarion-Goldfield-Dows

CLARION| After falling on the road against Newman, Rockford put together a strong win over CGD on Tuesday, June 12.
The Warriors took control of the game early with an 8-2 lead in the third inning. They would add one run in the fourth, then four in the sixth to tally the final score. The Cowgirls added two runs in the seventh, but it wouldn’t be enough to make up the deficit.
Emma Ramon went 1 for 3 at bat for three RBIs. Marissa Norby brought home two in her 1-for-4 effort. Gabby Keith knocked an RBI triple.
Two NIACC baseball players earn district honors
MASON CITY - NIACC sophomores Joey Werner and Brandon Williamson were two of 12 players selected to the 2018 all-NJCAA North Plains district team.
The North Plains district is made up of teams from NJCAA Region IX, XI and XIII.
Werner, an outfielder, hit .403 (71-176) with 12 doubles, five triples and eight home runs. Werner, who has signed to play at NCAA Division I Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, drove in 47 runs and walked 45 times.
Werner ranks third on the school's career walks list with 84 and is tied for seventh on career runs scored list with 106.
Williamson, a left-handed pitcher, was 8-4 with 104 strikeouts and 34 walks with a 3.14 earned run average in his sophomore season.
Williamson, who has signed with Texas Christian University and was drafted in the 36th round by the Milwaukee Brewers, is NIACC's career strikeout leader with 151.
Williamson also set the school's single-season strikeout record with his 104 Ks this season. He accumulated a career record of 12-5 with 151 strikeouts and 59 walks and a 3.44 ERA in 115 innings pitched.
