Iowa State’s McKay shares Big 12 player of the week honor
AMES | Iowa State senior Jameel McKay averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds in three Iowa State wins to share Phillips 66 Big 12 player of the week honors with Texas guard Javan Felix.
McKay shot 68.8 percent from the field and was 7 for10 from the free-throw line in wins over Buffalo, Iowa and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He recorded a pair of double-doubles in the three games.
McKay’s best game came against rival Iowa, where he scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. He was 10 of 12 from the field against the Hawkeyes. He also had a double-double against Buffalo, tallying 11 points and 10 boards. McKay finished the week with 18 points and eight rebounds against UAPB, going 6 for 8 at the free-throw line.
The Milwaukee, Wisconsin, native, has four double-doubles in the first nine games for the Cyclones, who are 9-0 this season.
Iowa’s Uthoff named Big Ten Conference co-player of the week

IOWA CITY | Iowa senior Jarrod Uthoff has been named the Big Ten co-player of the week for his efforts in the Hawkeyes’ games against Western Illinois and Iowa State.
The 6-foot-9 forward, who earned the honor for the second time in his career, shared the award with Maryland guard Melo Trimble.
Uthoff scored a career-high 27 points in a victory against Western Illinois, then topped that with a 32-point outburst in an 83-82 loss against the Cyclones. Uthoff scored 54 of his 59 points for the week in the first half, netting 24 before halftime against WIU and 30 in the first 20 minutes at Iowa State.
Uthoff shot 61 percent (22 for 36) from the field and 69 percent (9 for 13) from 3-point range while also collecting 18 rebounds and five blocked shots in the two games.
He currently leads the Big Ten in scoring with a season average of 19.6 points per game.
