MASON CITY — Needing a win to keep itself in the mix for a spot in the Midwest High School Hockey League tournament, the Mohawk Hockey Club shut down Dubuque on Sunday 4-0.

The win ended a four-game losing streak for the Mohawks as they held on to the eighth seed with five games to play. Eight teams make the tournament.

Ethan McHenry struck for the Mohawks 2 minutes, 9 seconds into the first period when he beat Dubuque goalie Brant Walker to put the Mohawks up 1-0.

The Mohawk Hockey Club increased its lead to two goals through the second period as Zach Jimenez, assisted by Nate Lassise, tallied a goal 1:15 into the period.

Skylar Watt and Jacob Lang helped seal the Mohawks’ victory with a goal apiece late in the third period. J.J. Hahn assisted on Lang’s goal.

The Devils didn’t go quietly, though, as they made Mohawk goalie Parker Dondlinger work throughout the game. Dondlinger stopped all 50 shots he faced.

The Mohawks (10-12-0-1) travel to Ames Friday.
