It’s been a season of parity in the Midwest High School Hockey League.
Other than Sioux City in the top of the standings, teams in positions 2 through 8 jockeyed for position all the way down the stretch. One week it looked like a certain team was a shoe-in for the second seed, and the next it was a different team.
As the season wrapped up last weekend, the second through eighth seeds were separated by seven points in the standings. The Mohawk Hockey Club was one which used a strong finish to vault itself into the third seed, and it will host sixth-seeded Omaha Friday at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the league tournament in Ames.
The Mohawks finished the regular season with an 18-8-1-1 record and won four of their past five games.
They’re led by five all-star selections in seniors Zach Jimenez, Jaxon Jones, Nate Lassise, Cole Baskerville and Jacob Lang.
The winner of Friday’s game will meet the winner between Kansas City and the Des Moines Oak Leafs Saturday at noon.
