MANLY | Forest City picked up a quality win on the road against Central Springs, taking the fifth set Monday to seal their victory. The Indians won 25-16, 25-9, 22-25, 21-25, 15-9.
The Indians (20-4) have won four consecutive matches.
Three Panthers (16-10) finished with double-digit kills, led by Ellacyn Coleman's 12. Hannah Ausenhus finished with 11 kills, and Kess Fingalsen had 10. Kayley Kelley and Kiley Hanft combined for 33 assists, and Mackenzie Lohmann had 25 digs.

MASON CITY | The Mohawks won one of three matches at Mason City High School on Saturday, losing to Central Springs and Waverly-Shell Rock before bouncing back against Webster City. Kaitlyn Roberts led the Mohawks with seven kills against Webster City, and Addy Walker had nine digs. Sierra Miner had a team-high seven assists. Emily Wittnebel was nine-of-nine from the service line.
The Mohawks (7-20) host Fort Dodge on Tuesday, which is Mason City Volleyball Alumni Night. Former players and coaches will receive free admission, and they will be recognized during the match.

High School cross country: Thomas breaks Mason City High School record at Ankeny Centennial
ANKENY | Mason City's Hannah Thomas broke a school record at Ankeny Centennial High School on Thursday, completing the 5K in 20:08, breaking Emma Davidson's record of 20:09. Michael Rowe's time of 16:27 places him at 13th on MCHS' all-time performance list. The girls finished ninth out of 11 schools. The boys finished eighth out of 10 teams.
"The overall team performances were some of our best team times in nearly 10 years," Mohawks coach Tyler Ketelsen said. "We are trending in the right direction, and we are looking to continue our improvement as we head into the last few weeks of the season."

Danielle Johnson led Osage with 11 kills in the final match, and Rylie Olson had 30 assists and was perfect on 12 serve attempts. Kourtney Chambers had 10 digs.
Osage has won six consecutive matches and 12 of its past 13.

Arjes had 11 assists in the second victory, and Maci Arjes was 15-of-15 from the service line with three aces. Hampton-Dumont (6-16) will head to North Butler for another tournament Tuesday.

Mason City golf: Mohawks finish fifth in Des Moines
DES MOINES | Mason City's boys golf team placed fifth in its district at Waveland Golf Course on Tuesday. Johnston won with a 289. Mason City shot a 315 collectively. Although the Mohawks didn't qualify for state as a team, junior J.J. Wickman qualified individually. Among players whose team didn't qualify, Wickman had the second-best score, shooting a 74 on Tuesday.
High School cross country: Area teams compete in Dick Bell Invitational
EAGLE GROVE | Several area teams competed at the Dick Bell Invitational on Tuesday at Eagle Grove Country Club. Humboldt's boys finished first in Class A, followed by Charles City and Clear Lake. Garner-Hayfield-Ventura finished sixth, and Algona finished seventh.
Clear Lake's Justin Wright placed second with a time of 17:16.36. Charles City's Mason Deeter and Nick Litterer finish fifth and sixth, respectively. Eric Faught, another Clear Lake runner, finished eighth.
Charles City's girls placed first in Class A. Algona finished fifth, and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura finished seventh. Clear Lake placed eighth. Kiki Connell and Whitney Martin placed second and third for Charles City, respectively. Garner-Hayfield-Ventura's Abby Christians placed fifth.
Newman Catholic's boys placed first in Class B. West Fork placed fifth, Bishop Garrigan placed seventh, and Belmond-Klemme finished ninth.
Knights runner Stephen Ringo placed third with a time of 17:38.09. Seth Hershey of Saint Ansgar was fourth, finishing in 17:39.49. Newman Catholic, Bishop Garrigan and Saint Ansgar all had runners finish in the top 10.
Denver's girls placed first in Class B, followed by Newman Catholic, which finished second. Saint Ansgar finished fifth, and West Fork placed sixth. Belmond-Klemme's girls finished eighth.
Saint Ansgar's Addy Carlon finished second, and Newman Catholic's Chloe Nelson finished sixth.

ARMSTRONG | The Cardinals (6-12) and Warriors split the first two sets Tuesday, but North Union responded by winning the final two sets to take the victory. The Warriors won 25-13, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19.
Reica Eenhuis had 13 kills and 11 digs to lead the Cardinals. Macey Spilman had 20 assists, and Maddie Williams was 16-of-17 from the service line with two aces.
High School volleyball: Saint Ansgar earns four-set victory against Newman Catholic

MASON CITY | The Saints (9-8) officially have a winning record after defeating Newman Catholic in four sets Tuesday. Saint Ansgar won 25-14, 25-17, 22-25, 25-12.
Blayne Koster led the Saints with 12 kills, and Tanyon Schutjer had a team-high 12 assists. Gabrielle Finberg had 24 digs and was 24-of-24 from the service line with five aces.
The Knights (2-13) suffered their third consecutive loss. They return to the court Oct. 13 for a tournament at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School.

HAMPTON | The Bulldogs (4-13) couldn't rebound from a tough first set against Humboldt, dropping their match in three sets Tuesday. Humboldt won 25-9, 25-17, 25-17.
Hampton-Dumont's Tara Krull led the team with six kills. Courtney Miller had 16 digs, and Maci Arjes had 15 digs. Kaci Arjes had 13 assists and nine digs. The Bulldogs return to the court when they face Algona on Thursday.
High School volleyball: Midlang, Olson lead Osage to sweep of Northwood-Kensett

NORTHWOOD | Sydney Midlang had 12 kills, and Rylie Olson had 28 assists as the Green Devils (19-5) swept Northwood-Kensett on Tuesday. Osage won 25-5, 25-7, 25-12. Kourtney Chambers added 13 digs for the Green Devils, who have won 15 of their past 18 matches. Chambers was also 20-of-21 from the service line with two aces. Ellie Bobinet had four aces on six serve attempts.
The Vikings' (4-13) loss marked their sixth in a row. Natalie Cordle had two kills, Brylee Hoeppner had six digs, and Jaela Parks was six-of-six from the service line.

ROCKFORD | North Butler's hot streak continued, as the Bearcats (14-10) won their sixth consecutive match Tuesday against Rockford. The Bearcats won 25-17, 25-17, 25-22. Sydney Eiklenborg had a team-high nine kills. Lauren Hawker and Brynn Salge each had 13 assists. Hawker was also 12-of-12 from the service line with two aces.
Rockford (9-10) got 22 digs from Jenna Paulus, 15 assists from Kylie Adams and nine kills from Kayla Carroll. Carroll was also 17-of-17 from the service line.
High School volleyball: West Fork wins five-set thriller against Nashua-Plainfield

NASHUA | Nashua-Plainfield dropped the first two sets of Tuesday's match against West Fork (9-9), but the Huskies (3-18) battled back to force a fifth set against the Warhawks. West Fork won the final set to clinch a dramatic victory, winning 25-20, 25-23, 16-25, 21-25, 15-11.
Rachael Jones had a team-high 13 kills for the Warhawks. Kylie Laudner had 15 assists and 15 digs. Morgan Meier led West Fork with 21 digs. Emily Caspers, who had 11 kills, finished 21-of-23 from the service line with three aces.
Nashua-Plainfield's Liberty Fisher had a whopping 21 kills. Meghan Wright had 25 assists, and Brianna Bienemann was 19-of-20 from the service line with four aces.

BUFFALO CENTER | The Bison (15-5) picked up a three-set victory against Eagle Grove on Monday, sweeping the Eagles 25-7, 25-19, 25-8. Katelin Adams led the Bison with 11 kills, and Hannah Main had 21 assists. Main was also 26-of-26 from the service line with 11 aces. The Bison will host a tournament Saturday.

FOREST CITY | The Indians (19-4) picked up a home victory against Lake Mills on Tuesday, sweeping the Bulldogs 25-21, 25-23, 25-20. Kelsey Koch and Kaylee Miller each had 11 kills, and Emma Hovenga had 25 assists. Koch also added 24 digs and was 12-of-12 from the service line.
Lake Mills (24-5) saw its 11-match winning streak come to an end. Kylie Greenfield led the Bulldogs with eight kills, and Jessa Gasteiger had a team-high 17 assists. Greenfield and Aubrey Casperson combined for 22 digs.
"Forest City is more athletic and experienced, and that showed tonight," Lake Mills coach Jim Boehmer said. "I didn't do what I needed to do to give the ladies the best opportunity. The girls gave a great effort, and we wanted to pull it off ... We have shown great growth this season, and we are not done yet."
High School volleyball: Mason City picks up road victory against Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN | The Mohawks (6-18) defeated Marshalltown for the first time in 14 years Tuesday. Mason City won 25-20, 25-20, 8-25, 25-18. Grace Tobin led the Mohawks with 12 kills. Kaitlyn Roberts and Megan Hollander added eight kills apiece. Cassie Sievers had 14 assists, and Sierra Miner had 11. Miner was also 18-of-18 from the service line with two aces. Addy Walker led the way defensively with 34 digs.
"We are very proud of our team for going on the road in a tough environment and coming out with a big conference win," Mason City coach Curt Klaahsen said. "We were sharp with our passes and controlled play at the net."
