On a windy, overcast day at Mason City Country Club, a group of local golfers competed, hoping to raise the Men's City Tournament trophy.
At the end of the day Sunday, local golfer Cody Brandau won the Men's City Tournament. He shot a 178 in 45 holes, 10 strokes ahead of runner-up Kevin Alert. It is the second championship in two weeks for Brandau, who was also victorious last week in the Mason City Country Club amateur.
The breeze made things tough for the golfers on Saturday, but the sun kept things warm as the groups milled about, taking their hacks and encouraging each other during the competition.
"It's been fun," said Mason City golfer Russ Jensen. "The pins were tough yesterday, there weren't a lot of really good scores, surprisingly. It was really nice out, but we got a little wind later in the day. Today it's windy right away."

Shouts of frustration could be heard throughout the course as golfers' shots sliced to undesirable spots. The wind didn't help matters, but the competitors on the course knew how to compensate for the added challenge.
In addition to the weather, the country club itself poses some extra difficulty.
"I hit a low ball, so you just have to hit the ball lower," Jensen said. "You've got to stay below the pin here at the club. They've got small greens, and they're quick, with the wind blowing. The ball breaks a little more."
In Saturday's Women's City Tournament, 13-year old Meghan Delong took home the crown, shooting a 79, just ahead Ashley and Rebecca Delong.
