MASON CITY — Dave Grossman, an internationally recognized author and one of the world's foremost experts in the field of human aggression, will be the featured speaker Monday at the Iowa Association of Women Police spring conference.

Grossman, who is a Pulitzer Prize nominated author has written "On Killing" and "Stop Teaching Our Kids To Kill."

The Mason City Police Department is host of the two-day IaAWP Spring Conference Monday and Tuesday at the Hanford Inn.

According to president-elect, Jessica Groven, a Mason City police officer, between 75 and 100 officers from across the state and Missouri have registered.

Tiffany Creekmur, an investigator with the Mason City Police Department, is the group's treasurer.

"Mason City is actually one of the smaller departments in the state to host a conference, so we're pretty excited about it," Creekmur said.

Groven said the association was created in 1982 and is an affiliate member of the International Association of Women Police. It is non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of women in law enforcement.

"A lot of what we do promotes networking," said Groven. "But it's also an opportunity for us to have some good training sessions."

Grossman is a West Point psychology professor, Professor of Military Science, and an Army Ranger who has combined his experiences to become the founder of a new field of scientific endeavor, which he has termed "killology."

Grossman will be the featured speaker during Monday's sessions.

On Tuesday, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Agent Bill Basler will present a program on crime scene analysis.

Also Tuesday, Mason City Police Department Investigator Dan Wellen will talk about compact disc and copyright violations.
