The EIA says renewable energy is on pace to become the fastest-growing source of electricity over the next two years.
In 2018, wind or solar sources could have provided the same amount of electricity at a lower cost than coal. Keeping a majority of U.S. coal plants open would cost more than replacing them with new wind and solar power alternatives.
One analysis found that by 2025, 86% of coal plants could be a risk of cheaper replacement by renewables. The renewable resources and better both for human health and the environment.
