CAFO: A term that graduates of the University of Google use to refer to hog buildings or confinements.
The term almost reminds me of UFO. The reality is, hog buildings (CAFOs) are not unfamiliar in North Iowa. Local Google alumni are too loosely using terms like “factory farms” and “Big Ag” to scare fellow North Iowans into believing that this “out-of-state” company is just here to ruin our water and stink up our air.
Truth is, “factory farms” are made up of people like you and me. These farmers take very seriously the DNR regulation put in place to protect the environment around them.
Take a Sunday drive this weekend, visit the countryside around you. You will notice there are many hog buildings already in place that you have not been smelling.
That “out-of-state” company, aka Prestage, has been prevalent in Iowa for many years, employing fellow Iowans, conducting business that benefits more fellow Iowans, paying taxes in Iowa that betters our state.
The money that we spend in North Iowa comes from CAFOs. Some of that money even comes from Prestage. That is how we raise and provide for our four small children. That is how we grow our business. That is how we continue to contribute to the economy of North Iowa.
We welcome Prestage to North Iowa with open arms.
