A SUV and Iowa Traction Railroad electric locomotive collided near 1605 19th St. S.W. Thursday morning in Mason City.

MASON CITY | Police have identified the driver involved in a crash with an electric locomotive Thursday morning in southwestern Mason City.

Julian Mann, of Swaledale, was driving a Chevy Equinox eastbound on 19th Street Southwest when he collided with an Iowa Traction Railroad electric locomotive about 9:43 a.m. Thursday, Mason City Police Capt. Mike McKelvey told the Globe Gazette via email Friday afternoon.

Mann told police he "did not see the Iowa Traction Railroad train" as it entered the roadway from the north, McKelvey said.

Mann and the driver of the train, Joseph Richards, of Mason City, were not hurt. No citations were issued.

The front end of Mann's SUV sustained heavy damage in the crash.
