CLEAR LAKE | Mild weather didn't deter fishermen from trekking onto a partially ice-covered Clear Lake on Thursday.
Dozens of ice fishing shacks could be seen south of McIntosh State Park on shallower parts of the lake while wide swaths of open water could be seen to the east of the park.
David Kurth and Mark Benson, both from Elkader, parked their truck on the south side, packed up three sleds worth of gear, and made their way onto the ice. The pair said they make the two-hour trip from Elkader at least once a week to Clear Lake.
"As long as the fishing is good," Benson said with a chuckle.
