Mary Elizabeth (Heuberger) Meints was born April 11, 1925 to Charley and Gracie (Fowler) Heuberger of rural Chapin.

Mary attended Chapin School graduating in 1942. Wanting to be a teacher, she attended Coe College for two years and often shared the Coe College fight song when her alma mater was mentioned.

On November 26, 1944 she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Harold William Meints. Harold and Mary farmed in the Sheffield and Chapin area for years and finally purchased and lived on the farm that Mary grew up on.

Mary loved to cook, bake, and sew. She always had the coffee on and goodies to share with anyone that stopped by. Her children always came first and she spent many hours sewing dresses for her girls. Gary came along a few years later and she was his greatest cheerleader at all of his sporting events.

When her grandchildren entered the world, nothing made her smile more as when they entered the room or she could watch them participate in their events. She provided her family with a happy, loving home. In later years Mary worked part time at the Bo-Shar department store and cafes in Sheffield where she baked wonderful pies.

Mary enjoyed serving others and was an active member of Women of Zion in many capacities. She had a great love for music. She and Harold sang for many funerals at Zion and she belonged to the musical group, the Rural Airs. Her family has many fond memories of singing around the dining room table after the evening meal.

Mary enjoyed playing cards with her friends and volunteering at the Sharing Shoppe. She also enjoyed writing poetry.

Her family is very thankful for her amazing sense of humor and for teaching them the great importance of faith and love of the Lord.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Judith A. (Dennis) Crom of Sheffield, Linda J. (Steve) Wells of Clear Lake, and Kathleen J. (Robert) Shreckengost of Sheffield; daughter-in-law Kristi (Dave) Marsen of Leeds, Alabama. She is also survived by her grands and greats: Tim and Tracy Shreckengost, Madison & Sydney; Tom and Kara Shreckengost, Tanner & Grace, Caleb & Kellen Cameron; Chris and Danielle Crom, Olivia & Matthew; Todd and Sara Shreckengost, Hayden, Nolan, and Braylon; Joshua and Jessica Wells, Madilynn & Amelia; Jami and Jesse Peters, Kiana; Marc Wells; Jill Schade; Greg and Sarah Crom; Joelle and Bryant Newby, Kaylen & Kenzie; Jaclyn and Alex Meier, Gunner; brother and wife: Donald and Maxine Heuberger of Sheffield; sister, Virginia Clendenen of Indianola; sisters-in-law, Darlene Meints of Clear Lake; Etta Mae Heuberger of Brainerd, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2010 and her son Gary Meints in 2008, her parents, grandson Joshua Schade, brother Charles Heuberger, sister Doris and husband Max Neal of San Gabriel, CA., brothers-in-law & wives, Conrad and Carolyn Meints, John and Lena Meints, and Marvin Meints.
