MASON CITY – Marlys J. Ennis passed away at Mercy One Hospice in Mason City on July 6, 2019.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Epiphany Parish - Holy Family Catholic Church, 722 N. Adams Ave., Mason City with the Rev. Neil Manternach, Celebrant. Her body will be laid to rest at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation with public viewing will be held at Hogan-Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019.

In Marlys's honor, she has requested memorials be directed to her family at 108 Lakeview Drive, Mason City, IA 50401.

Marlys Joann Larson was born on July 29, 1934 in Garner, Iowa and was the daughter of Clifford and Agnes (Johnson) Larson. She graduated from Garner High School in 1952. On September 15, 1956 she was united in marriage to Richard Donald Ennis at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City, Iowa. Together they would be blessed with 7 children. Julie (Dave) Cooper, Mason City; Nancy (Bert) Lee, Mason City; Kathryn Fields, Diamond Springs, California; Peggy (Rick) Pitzenberger, Mason City; Mary (Jay) Miller, Mason City; Jodi Fisher, Rochester, Minnesota; JoEllen Ennis who died at birth.

Marlys was a daycare provider for many years while her children were growing up. After her children were grown, she worked at Younkers and retired after 14 years of service. She enjoyed her family so much and loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She has 11 grandchildren, Lindsay Cooper, Zach Cooper, Amber (Brad) Deets, Kristin (Michael) Daley, Jared Bracken, Ashley (Marcus) Lunning, Alex (Emily) Miller, Jacob Pitzenberger, Samantha (Brittain) Bachus, Lucas Fisher and Jack Fisher. She also has 13 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Marlys enjoyed playing cards and had been in a 500 club for 40 years. She enjoyed cooking and was known for making the best potato salad and brownies.

Marlys was preceded in death by her husband Richard Ennis; her parents, Clifford and Agnes Larson; two brothers and sisters in law, Richard and Delores Larson and Leroy and Merry Larson; a son-in-law, Rick Pitzenberger; daughter Kathryn Fields, and a stillborn daughter, JoEllen Ennis.

Thank you to all who were a part of her life…the phone calls, visits, conversations, meals, cards, laughs, tears and just spending time with her brought so much joy to her life. We will all miss her so much.
