ELGIN, Illinois — Larry M. Kirlin, 74, of Elgin, IL, and formerly Mason City, IA, died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at River View Nursing and Rehab Center in Elgin.

A private memorial service was held.

Inurnment will take place in Elmwood-St Joseph Cemetery.

Larry lived with acute mental illness for over 50 years. Memorials may be given to North Iowa Transition Center, 408 First St. NW, Mason City, IA 50401. Online condolences may be left for the family at

Larry was born Nov. 1, 1942, in Toledo, IA. He grew up in Mason City, IA, where he lived from 1949 until he finished high school in 1961. He graduated from North Iowa Area Community College in 1963 and Gem City College, Quincy, IL, in 1965. He worked as an engraver.

Larry’s parents, Vernon and Wilma Kirlin, preceded him.

Survivors include his sister, Karilyn Parrott (Joel) of Gurnee, IL; a son Kevin Stouffer (Kate) and grandson, Sean of San Diego, CA; his niece, Kristen Parrott (Cavan Fang) of Viroqua, WI; his nephew, Tim Parrott (Larissa) and grandniece, Frances of Carlsbad, CA.
