MASON CITY - Reverend DuWayne Russell Dalen, 85, of Mason City, Iowa passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 18, 2018.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave; with Pastor Dan Gerrietts officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania Ave. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.majorericksonfuneralhome.com.
DuWayne was born on July 25, 1933, in Montevideo, MN, the son of Clarence and Celeste Dalen. DuWayne was a graduate of Montevideo High School and continued his education at South Dakota State University where he received a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. The Lord led DuWayne on a different path and he attended Luther Theological Seminary in St. Paul, MN, where he graduated with a Master of Divinity. DuWayne served congregations in California, Arizona, Minnesota, and Iowa. He also served a 3-year missionary call to Brazil. He touched many people's lives through his 57-year ministry.
DuWayne was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved to travel, hunt, fish, take trips to the Boundary Waters, spend time at his lake cabin in Minnesota, and attend his grandchildren's events.
DuWayne married Joan Miller on August 3, 1957, in Montevideo, MN. DuWayne and Joan recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Dalen, son Carlyle and wife Leslie and their children Derek and Connor; son DuWayne and wife Kimberly and their children Kalie and Kelsey; daughter Linda and husband Jeremy Latham and their children Ashley, Abigail, and Anna; son-in-law Donovan Nelson (Kerri) and his late wife Joyce and their children Amanda and husband Nick Staab and their children Peyton and Paislee; and Jennifer and husband Seth Thackery. He is also survived by 2 sisters Genevieve Baldus and LaVonne Blake.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Carlyle Dalen and brother Donald Dalen, and daughter Joyce Nelson.
DuWayne will be laid to rest at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Montevideo, MN at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Lutheran World Relief.
