In 1992 she met her future “beautiful wife”, as she called her, Cindy Brun, watching softball. Because of their mutual love for softball, she joined the Air National Guard in August of 1993 and went to her first National Guard softball tournament. Working as an Electrician at Pella Windows at the time, it was her love for the F-16 that brought her to a military career working as a crew chief for the Air National Guard, which led her to serve overseas in Kuwait, Afghanistan, Qatar, and Turkey. She moved on from crew chief to the Joint Force Head Quarters in the Human Resource Office where she was always willing to help anyone and everyone who asked. In February of 2019 she was promoted to Senior Master Sargent. Anytime she was out in public, she made it a point to recognize those that served our country before her.
Brenda is survived by her wife, Cindy Brun; mother and stepfather, Carol and Jim Weaver of Rockwell, IA; foster son, Michael Gonzales of Des Moines, sister, Michele (Tim) Casey of Mason City, IA; fur kids, Piper, Hazel and Abby; niece, Sarah (Derek) Hornberg of Iowa City, IA, nephew, Ryan (Taylor) Casey of North Liberty, IA and great grandnephew, Alden Hornberg of Iowa City, IA. She was preceded by father, James Reed; maternal grandparents, Earl and Shirley Herman; paternal grandparents, Don Reed, and fur kids, Bernard, Sinnie, Salsa, Heidi and Lucky Lou.
