FOREST CITY | This New Year's might be a good one to celebrate indoors.
North Iowans should use caution if they plan to spend any time outdoors Sunday or on New Year's Day as a wind chill warning remains in effect until noon on Tuesday.
Wind chills will range from 20 to 45 below zero, according to the National Weather Service.
Many churches in the area have cancelled Sunday services.
Temperatures are not expected to climb above zero until Tuesday.
There will be brief limited periods, primarily late Sunday afternoon, when portions of the area may see some nominal improvement in wind chills and then wind chills will again quickly drop into the evening.
The dangerously cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 10 minutes to exposed skin, according to the National Weather Service.
Frost bite can occur quickly and even hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken, according to the National Weather Service.
Those who must venture outdoors are advised to wear protective clothing.
