Doris Arlene Throne

MARBLE ROCK - Doris Arlene Throne, 87, of Marble Rock, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019 at home in Marble Rock.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 North Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City, with Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Burial will be in the Kensett Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St, NE, Mason City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Doris was born in Marble Rock, Iowa, her family then moved to Greene, Iowa then to Kensett, Iowa, where Doris graduated from high school in 1949 and was a member of the Basketball team. Doris would say with a smile that she was a 'star' player on the team.
Doris married her high school sweetheart, Harley Thorne on June 11, 1949. To this union two daughters, Terry Leigh and Vicki Jean were born.
Doris worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator with over 30 years of service. There she played basketball with her co-workers on occasion for fun and was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers organization until her death.
Doris was a faithful member of the Women of the Moose for 48 years, serving in various positions and earning the College of Regents honor.
Doris loved to play cards, especially 500 and Texas Hold' em. She enjoyed camping, but Not in a tent! She particularly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren who loved to spend time with their grandma Moose as she was fondly called by many of them. She also loved spending time with her two grand dogs!
Doris is lovingly survived by her daughter, Terry Holt, Marble Rock, Iowa; six grandchildren, Stacy (Mark)McCoy, Albany Wisconsin, Sheri (Ron) Hillegas, Charles City, Iowa, Lonnie (Amy) Rasmus, Mountain Iron, Minnesota, Brian Westendorf (special friend, Jessie), Marble Rock, Iowa, Angela (Ryan) Freese, Dumont, Iowa, and Robert (Brandi) Riggan, Marble Rock, Iowa; 17 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren, and one on the way; her doggies, Harley and Rags. Also surviving are her two sisters in-law, Tallora Grosland, Luan Sallee and along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Preceding her in death was her parents; husband, Harley in 1999; daughter, Vicki Jean, in infancy; sister, Norma Nunn; two brothers, Donald and Rolland Sallee; five brothers in-law, Telford, Raymond, Orville, LaVern and Lloyd Throne; three sisters in law, Arlene Johnson, Loretta Hertzog and Rosetta Throne.
Her indomitable spirit and feisty nature will be missed along with her sincere and everlasting Love of her God and Family.
