NORA SPRINGS | An elderly Nora Springs man accused of sexually abusing a young girl over a seven-year period was sentenced to 25 years in prison Monday morning.
Ronald Calvert, 71, pleaded guilty to the one count of second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony, in exchange for prosecutors agreeing to drop seven other counts against him.
Calvert was originally charged with four counts of second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony, and four counts of third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony.
The abuse involved one victim who is now 15 and occurred between 2006 and 2013.
District Judge DeDra Schroeder also imposed special provisions under the Iowa Code providing for Calvert to be under the supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections for the rest of his life. He must also register as a convicted sex offender.
Schroeder did give Calvert credit for the time he already served in the Floyd County Jail.
Calvert was arrested in January 2014.
