Mason City man accused of beating woman while driving drunk


Police say a Mason City man was arrested after he beat a woman in a car and drove while drunk Saturday.

Wyatt Eugene Jacobs, 35, was charged with misdemeanor operating while under the influence, first offense, and misdemeanor domestic abuse assault,  second offense, following an incident on the 1800 block of Fourth Street Southwest.

At about 9 p.m. Saturday, police say, Jacobs assaulted a woman by punching her in the head and face. He is also accused of slamming her head into the interior of the car while driving and while parked in the HyVee parking lot.

According to court documents, the woman had a bloody nose and “what appeared to be a small cut on her face.”

According to court documents, Jacobs was driving his vehicle westbound on Highway 122. “Jacobs vehicle was stopped due to a witness observing a physical domestic between the occupants,” court documents said. “Jacobs admitted that he had consumed an alcoholic beverage earlier in the day.”

Open alcohol containers were located in the vehicle, according to the criminal complaint.

“Jacobs had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath,” court documents said. “Jacobs had slurred speech and watery eyes.”

He refused all field sobriety tests, PBT and a Certified Breath Test on the Datamaster.

Jacobs was arrested and booked in Cerro Gordo County Jail where he is held on a $3,000 bond.

A no contact order issued Sunday. The firearms warning was checked was checked in the order.

Jacobs is scheduled to appear April 30 in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

He was also cited for driving while license denied, suspended or revoked, failure to provide proof of financial liability and open container - driver 21 years or older.

His non-jury trial in those citations is set for Oct. 7.
