Dr. Lyell Hogg, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon at North Iowa Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center in Mason City, is one the panelists at the Academic Advantage event on April 6.

MASON CITY | An event geared toward middle-school, high-school and early-level college students who are interested in a career in health care is coming to North Iowa.

Academic Advantage, a new event offered by North Iowa Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center, will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on April 6 at the Muse-Norris Conference Center, 500 College Drive, in Mason City.

It will feature a panel of local professionals who will discuss their paths into the health care industry, as well as college admissions directors and academic mentors who will provide tips and resources related to the application process.

The panel of local medical and academic professionals consists of:

• Lyell Hogg, oral and maxillofacial surgeon at North Iowa Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center

• Carrie Brown, flight nurse at Mercy Air Med and Critical Care Transport

• Angela Conrad, pathologist at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center

• Karla Wymore, counselor at Mason City High School

Local colleges and nonprofits will offer volunteer and internship opportunities. Two students will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Other giveaways include two pairs of AirPods and gift cards.
