ORANGE CITY -- An Orange City woman was arrested Thursday by the Sioux County Sheriff's Office after an investigation into the vandalism of a privately-owned, pro-life sign west of Orange City.

Ariel Valdes, 21, has been charged with third-degree criminal mischief, according to a sheriff's office release.

The incident itself involved a sign near a field along Iowa Highway 10 that originally read, "Adoption is still an option!" on one side and "If a fetus is not a child, why the rush to abort it?" on the other.

On the first side, black paint was sprayed over the words "an option," and the words "Only your choice" added below. On the other, the words "Because it's your body" were added in black paint below the original text.

The vandalism itself was believed to have occurred between Saturday and Tuesday.
