MASON CITY | A Mason City man charged with manslaughter in Illinois is out on bond and living in Mason City ahead of trial, according to an Illinois newspaper. 

Mason T. Shannon, 43, is charged with manslaughter in the death of Michael Castelli on July 20, 2017. He is accused of putting Castelli in a choke-hold during an altercation at a property northeast of Ottawa.

Shannon was released after posting a $50,000 cash bond, The Times of Ottawa, Illinois, reported.

Shannon has asked for bench trial, meaning he will be tried by a judge instead of a jury. The trial is scheduled for June 21.
