CLEAR LAKE - Police are investigating a possible theft of “precious heirlooms” from a Winter Dance Party event.

According to Clear Lake Police Chief Pete Roth, the department responded to a theft report Sunday for two missing picture collages and one movie poster belonging to Ritchie Valens’ family.

“The family was in town for the Winter Dance Party celebration held over the past weekend at the Surf Ballroom,” Roth said in a release.

The items were taken Feb. 2 from the Best Western Motor Lodge in Clear Lake from a conference room during a family luncheon.

“Investigators have been working with the Valens’ Family, the Best Western and the Surf,” Roth said. “The items’ return is the primary concern for the family.”

The items have been described as “precious heirlooms.” The actual value of the items is still being determined, according to police.

The family and the police department are seeking the public’s help in finding the items.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the items should contact the Clear Lake Police Department at 641-357-2186 or at police@cityofclearlake.org.
