NORTHWOOD | A Northwood man has been arrested for choking and hitting a woman he knew during an argument over what to watch on TV.

Jack Everett Greenwood, 58, was charged with domestic abuse assault - impeding air/blood flow causing bodily injury following an incident at an apartment in the 900 block of Ninth Avenue North in Northwood.

At about 11:24 p.m. Monday, a Worth County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched to the apartment for a “fight in progress,” according to court documents.

The deputy noted in the criminal complaint he observed a verbal confrontation between Greenwood and a woman. The deputy separated the two and escorted Greenwood to the front seat of the patrol vehicle.

Greenwood told the deputy that he and the woman were arguing about what to watch on TV, court documents said, and noted a spoon she threw at him splashed hot liquid on his face.

The deputy then spoke with the woman and noticed red marks on the left side of her neck and shoulder.

The woman said Greenwood “was trying to get her to watch all of the unlabeled VCR recordings and they got into an argument about it.”

She said she pointed the spoon, which she was using to cook her apricots, at Greenwood and “unintentionally got the apricot on his face.”

According to court documents, the woman said Greenwood pushed her down twice, hit her in the face, grabbed her throat and applied pressure, causing her to have difficulty breathing for “approximately two seconds.”

Greenwood was arrested and transported to the Worth County Jail, where he is being held on a $5,000 bond.

A no-contact order was filed Tuesday.

Greenwood is scheduled to appear in Worth County District Court May 3.
