ALGONA | The Algona Police Department is warning residents to lock their garages and vehicles after a string of burglaries over the weekend.

A group of people entered unlocked garages and vehicles, stealing bicycles, tools, cash and miscellaneous electronics between the evening hours of March 10 and early morning hours of March 11, police said in a news release on Facebook.

"All residents of Algona are asked to ensure that they secure their vehicles and garages so that future incidents like this can be prevented," police said in the release.

People with property from State Street to Oak Street, from Thornington to Phillips Street that uses surveillance cameras should contact the police department at 515-295-3515 so officers can review video.

"If anyone finds any property in their yard that does not belong to them, please let us know," police said. "With your cooperation, we can hopefully identify suspects and prevent future incidents like this from occurring."
