DOUGHERTY - A North Iowa man was arrested for assaulting a woman in a domestic incident and damaging her car in Dougherty, police say.
Colton James Winfrey, 28, of Dougherty, was charged with misdemeanor third-degree criminal mischief and misdemeanor domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury after an incident on the 5300 block of Yarrow Avenue in Dougherty.
At about 3:35 p.m. Aug. 18, Winfrey allegedly jumped onto the hood of a woman's car, denting it and causing an estimated $500 to $1,000 in damage, court documents said.
Winfrey is also accused of grabbing the woman by her shoulder and neck during the incident and ripping her shirt, court documents said. The woman sustained red marks to those areas and told law enforcement her neck hurt, according to court documents.

Winfrey was arrested, booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail and later released on his own recognizance after his initial court appearance Aug. 20. A no-contact order was issued the same day.
The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office misfiled the initial charges as felony third-degree criminal mischief -- hate crime and misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury. Assistant Cerro Gordo County Attorney Andrew Olson amended the charges, saying prosecutors do not allege that a hate crime occurred, and that it was a domestic incident.
The court approved the amended charges Aug. 24.
Winfrey is scheduled to appear Friday in Cerro Gordo County District Court.
