MASON CITY - A North Iowa fraud investigation and search warrants leads to three arrests Thursday.

The North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force Special Operations Group served a search warrant at 422 North Georgia in Mason City as part of a Mason City Police Department fraud investigation.

A second search warrant was also served by law enforcement at 415 Thompson Street in Sheffield, Mason City Police Chief Jeff Brinkley said in a release.

“As a result of the search warrants, officers seized vehicles and documents that were part of the ongoing fraud investigation,” Brinkley said.

Jason Mackenzie Shaw, 43, was charged with felony identity theft over $10,000.

According to court documents, Shaw secured a two loans Aug. 13 totalling $71,499.

One of the loans was the amount of $27,936 and the second loan was for $43,563.

The address listed in court documents indicated that at least one of the loans was likely obtained from North Iowa Community Credit Union, 640 South Federal Avenue in Mason City.

Police say Shaw acquired the loans by using a false identification.

“The defendant knew that the name and identification information he was using was false,” court documents said.

Court documents indicate that Shaw has no permanent address. Shaw listed a LaPuente, California address on his application for counsel.

Shaw was booked early Friday morning in Cerro Gordo County Jail and is held on a $10,000 bond. No court date has been set.

Dennis Childers, 61, and Julie Childers, 51, were taken into custody in Sheffield on outstanding warrants from Arizona and are currently awaiting extradition, Brinkley said.

The investigation into the fraud case is ongoing, Brinkley said.

“If you believe that your business may be a victim of fraud or identity theft by Shaw while using an alias, please contact the Mason City Police Department at 641-421-3636,” he said.

The Mason City Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force, the NCINTF Special Operations Group, the Sheffield Police Department, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, the Garner Police Department and the Clear Lake Police Department.
