Nebraska man arrested in Humboldt County, charged with kidnapping


RENWICK | A Nebraska man is in custody after an alleged abduction early Thursday morning that ended in Humboldt County. 

Valentin Velez, 36, of La Vista, Nebraska, is charged with felony third-degree kidnapping. 

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received information that a woman was abducted from Fremont, Nebraska, according to a news release. Her age has not been released. 

The sheriff's office said the woman used social media to contact friends and family.

Humboldt and Wright county deputies located her at 503 McCurry St., Renwick.  

She was able to escape and was transported to Humboldt County Memorial Hospital by Renwick Ambulance Service. Law enforcement didn't provide information about the extent of her injuries. 

The Humboldt County Attorney’s Office, Iowa DCI, Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Department of Narcotic Enforcement provided assistance. 

Velez is being held in the Webster County Jail on a $25,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Humboldt County District Court Feb. 5.
