MASON CITY | An Albert Lea woman is accused of endangering her son by staying in a Mason City motel room with a convicted sex offender not allowed to be around children.

Brittany Erin Mulliner, 38, was charged with misdemeanor child endangerment following an incident at a motel on the 3400 block of South Federal Avenue.

Court documents do not specify the name of the motel; however, the Ashley Inn Motel is located at 3451 S. Federal Ave.

Mason City police officers responded to a welfare check at the motel about 6:22 p.m. Saturday. A caller had reported a child was "staying in a room with a known sex offender that is not permitted to be around children," charging documents said.

Officers found Mulliner and her 4-year-old son were staying with an unidentified sex offender who is not the child's father, court documents said. There are five registered sex offenders who list the motel as their permanent address, according to the Iowa Sex Offender Registry.

Mulliner allegedly knew the individual was a sex offender, according to court documents.

Mulliner was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail Saturday evening, where she is held on a $2,000 bond.

No court date has been set.
