MASON CITY | A Mason City woman has been released on bond after being charged for theft and drugs Friday.

Angel Marie Ward, 29, was charged with third-degree theft, possession of a controlled substance — first offense — and possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine — after an incident at Shopko, 615 S. Monroe Ave.

According to court records, Ward allegedly selected items off the shelves, concealed them in her purse and inside her front waistband about 4:51 p.m. Friday.

Ward then left the store without paying for the items, which police said was valued at $159.

Police officers arrested Ward for theft.

During a search, police said they found a small, clear bag in Ward's purse containing white pills identified as hydrocodone and a purple container in her front right pocket containing methamphetamine, according to court documents.

Ward posted $4,000 bond Friday. She is scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court Feb. 2.

She has four previous convictions for theft in Cerro Gordo County — two counts of fifth-degree theft in October 2017 and two counts of fourth-degree theft in December 2015, court records indicate.
