Mason City man wanted for child support charged with carrying Taser without permit

MASON CITY | A Mason City man arrested on a warrant for unpaid child support has also been charged with carrying a Taser without a permit.

Shane Eugene Ward, 39, was charged with misdemeanor carrying weapons after being arrested on a warrant for two counts of failure to pay child support. 

Ward was arrested by a Cerro Gordo County deputy at Shopko, 615 S. Monroe Ave., about 6:14 p.m. Tuesday. 

Prior to being placed in handcuffs, court documents say Ward threw a Taser-like device back into his vehicle that was concealed on his person.

The deputy noted in the criminal complaint that Ward did not have a permit to carry the Taser, which is required by state law. 

Ward was booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail and is being held on an $1,000 bond.

He must serve about three weeks in jail for not paying child support, a sentence imposed due to previous delinquencies in 2016. He owes about $335, court documents said.
