MASON CITY | A Mason City man accused of spitting on a police sergeant in October has been sentenced to jail.

Earlier this month, Larry Anthony Garcia, 69, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault on persons in certain occupations.

Judge Karen Salic on Tuesday sentenced Garcia to a week in jail and ordered him to pay a $315 fine. None of the sentence or fine was suspended.

Garcia spit on the uniformed officer at Quality Inn and Suites, 410 Fifth St. S.W., in October 2017, according to court documents.

Garcia is listed as living at the motel at the time of the incident, according to the Mason City Police Department criminal complaint.

Court documents don’t say what allegedly prompted the act.
