MASON CITY | A Mason City man has been charged with domestic abuse after law enforcement said he strangled a woman.

Brandon Charles Benson, 26, Mason City, is charged with domestic abuse assault impeding air/blood flow for an incident that occurred an apartment in the 400 block of First Street Northeast.

About 7 p.m. June 15, Benson is accused of strangling to the woman “to the point that (she) lost consciousness and after she came to, he did it again,” law enforcement wrote in charging documents.

Officers noted the woman also had bruising on her legs.

Benson was arrested on a warrant June 29. A no-contact order has been filed.

He is being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court July 10.
