MASON CITY | A Mason City man has been arrested for allegedly strangling a woman he knew early Tuesday morning.

Ryan Jon Driscoll, 34, was charged with felony domestic abuse strangulation — impeding air/blood flow — after an incident at a home in the 700 block of South Jackson Avenue.

According to court documents, Driscoll about 1 a.m. Tuesday strangled a known woman in a kitchen by placing his hands around her throat and impeding her airway.

The woman got up from the ground and tried to get her cell phone when Driscoll allegedly punched her in the throat, court documents said.

Court documents said the woman had a bruise on her throat and Driscoll showed police injuries to his right hand and left eye.

“Those injuries are consistent with the victim defending herself,” police wrote in charging documents.

Driscoll was booked into Cerro Gordo County Jail Tuesday evening with no bond. No court date has been set.
