MASON CITY | A Mason City man is accused of strangling a woman while trying to get the keys to his gun safe during an argument.
Jeremy David Twedt, 33, is charged with misdemeanor domestic abuse assault - impeding flow of air/blood following an incident at a residence on the 1000 block of First Street Northeast.
About 1:53 a.m. July 22, Twedt and a woman were verbally arguing that led to "wrestling around," as Twedt was trying to get the keys to his gun safe from the woman.
The woman had visible scratch marks on her arms, according to the criminal complaint. She told police that Twedt placed his arm around her neck “causing her normal breathing to be interrupted.”
Twedt was released following his initial court appearance July 23. A no contact order was issued the same day.

A contempt hearing is scheduled for Aug. 8 in Cerro Gordo County Magistrate's Court.
