MASON CITY - A Mason City man is accused of strangling a known woman Wednesday.

Kristapher Devin Cowell, 32, is charged with domestic abuse assault - strangulation following an incident Wednesday on the 100 block of 12th Place Northeast.

At about 5 p.m., Cowell allegedly got into an altercation with a woman.

Court documents said that he backhanded the woman and pushed her, leaving a visible mark on her right arm. The woman told Mason City Police that Cowell placed his hands around her neck and applied pressure, impeding the normal flow of air/blood.

Cowell was booked in the Cerro Gordo County Jail and later released on his own recognizance after his initial court appearance.

A no contact order was filed Thursday.

Cowell is scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court March 9.
