MASON CITY | A Mason City man is accused of strangling, punching and kicking and preventing a woman he knew from leaving a home Thursday.

Tyler James Pingel, 24, is charged with felony domestic abuse assault — impeding air/blood flow and misdemeanor false imprisonment.

The incident occurred about 1:15 p.m. Thursday in the 1600 block of N. Federal Avenue, according to court documents. 

According to court documents, Pingel allegedly told the woman to leave and then would not let her leave.

When the she attempted to leave, Pingel allegedly punched her in the face and head, then kicked and attempted to strangle her, police said. 

A no-contact order has been issued.

Pingel is being held on a $5,000 cash or surety bond in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court Feb. 2.
