MASON CITY | A Mason City man is accused of going on a crime spree that spanned several months, resulting in charges for burglary, theft of air rifles from Walmart and drug possession.

Brandon Wayne Hufstedler, 32, was arrested on a warrant Monday afternoon and booked into Cerro Gordo County Jail, where he is being held on a $18,000 cash-only bond.

Hufstedler in November 2017 was allegedly captured on surveillance video using a bolt cutter to break into three locked storage units in the 1600 block of Highway 18 in Clear Lake.

He is accused of stealing more than $10,000 worth of construction tools and personal possessions from one of the units between Nov. 3 and Nov. 4, according to charging documents filed by Clear Lake police.

Mason City police on Nov. 14 executed a search warrant at Hufstedler’s residence, an apartment in the 1200 block of Plymouth Road.

Police said they found two small, clear plastic bags containing methamphetamine and marijuana in his bedroom dresser, court documents said.

Hufstedler is also accused of stealing two Gamo Air Rifles worth $229 and $198 from Walmart at 12:15 a.m. Jan. 2.

Charging documents say Hufstedler removed two air rifles from their boxes and placed them into a bean bag chair. He then allegedly purchased the chair and left the store.

Hufstedler’s charges include:

• Three counts of felony third-degree burglary.

• Felony possession of a controlled substance, meth - third or subsequent offense.

• Felony possession of a controlled substance, marijuana - third of subsequent offense

• Misdemeanor third-degree theft.

Hufstedler has been convicted of theft twice before in Cerro Gordo County in 2005 and 2014, court documents say, along with other theft convictions elsewhere. He also has three prior convictions for possessing marijuana.

Hufstedler scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court Feb. 21 for the burglary, theft and drug charges.
