MASON CITY | A Mason City man was arrested after he allegedly punched a woman he knew and hit her pet pot belly pig with a golf club Saturday.
William Alan Eldridge, 27, is charged with felony domestic abuse assault - third or subsequent offense, misdemeanor animal abuse, possession of a controlled substance - marijuana first offense, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstruction of emergency communications.
About 6:29 p.m. at a residence on the 0 block of 14th Street Northeast, Eldridge allegedly had an altercation with a woman he knew.
According to court documents, he punched the woman on the face, leaving a mark on her nose. Eldridge allegedly kicked the woman in the face while officers were "escorting him outside" as well.
Edridge also hit the woman’s pet pot belly pig with a golf club, causing lacerations on the pig, court documents said.
When the woman attempted to call 911 during the assault, Eldridge allegedly interfered with the call.

Court documents said Eldridge grabbed the phone from the woman and threw it on the ground, causing the batteries to fall out and make the phone useless.
According to court documents, when Mason City police officers arrived on scene to talk with Eldridge about the alleged domestic assault, marijuana and two bongs were found on the the table near him.
Eldridge was arrested and booked in Cerro Gordo County Jail after 8 p.m. Saturday.
He is being held in he Cerro Gordo County Jail on a $5,000 bond. No court date has been set.
A no-contact order was issued Monday. Eldridge has two prior convictions of domestic abuse assault in Cerro Gordo County from 2009 and 2013.
