MASON CITY | A Mason City man was arrested Sunday for possessing meth and resisting a court order.

Rusty Lewis Kopps, 29, felony possession of controlled substance and misdemeanor contempt of court.

According to court documents, Kopps failed to complete a domestic abuse program as ordered by a court.

In December 2016, Kopps appeared in court for domestic abuse assault, and in September 2015, he appeared in court for domestic abuse assault bodily injury, court documents said. In both cases, he was ordered to complete the abuse programs.

He failed the program due to too many absences, the community treatment coordinator said in court documents.

A statewide warrant for Kopps was issued March 9.

About 5:58 p.m. Sunday, Mason City Police arrested Kopps on the 700 block of South Washington Avenue. Police found a small baggie containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine while searching him.

He is held in Cerro Gordo County Jail on two bonds totalling $5,500.

Kopps is scheduled to appear April 3 in Cerro Gordo County court for both a preliminary hearing on the meth charge and a contempt hearing in magistrate court.
