Mason City man accused of kicking down apartment door, assaulting woman

MASON CITY - A Mason City man has been arrested for allegedly breaking into an apartment and assaulting a woman.

Michael Bryan Griffith, 29, was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness and fourth-degree criminal mischief from an incident on Feb. 16.

At about 7 a.m., Griffith allegedly kicked in the entry door to enter an apartment in the 2400 block of South Taft Avenue, which court documents said caused $459 in damage to the door and door frame.

He then assaulted a woman by striking her in the head repeatedly with his hands, court documents said, leaving the woman with a bump on her head behind her right ear and head pain.

Griffith allegedly also broke the screens on a 50-inch Magnavox flat screen TV, valued at $700, and a tablet, valued at $200, that were inside the apartment, according to court documents.

He was arrested on a warrant Friday and booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail, where he is being held on a $2,000 bond. Griffith is scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court May 29.
