MASON CITY | A Mason City man is accused of having marijuana and cocaine in the jail after being arrested.

John Everette Green Jr., 27, is charged with felony possession of contraband in a correctional institution, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, possession of a controlled substance - cocaine and interference with official acts.

Green Jr. was arrested after running away from a Mason City officer who told him to stop in the 900 block of North Commercial Alley about 12:56 a.m. Sept. 21, court documents said.

While at the jail, court documents say Green Jr. had baggies of marijuana and cocaine.

“He was asked multiple times prior to entry if he had anything illegal on him which he never responded,” police wrote in charging documents.

Green is being held on a $7,000 bond or 10 percent cash in his name. If he posts bond, he is required to complete a substance abuse assessment interview and follow referrals.

He is scheduled to appear in Cerro Gordo County District Court Sept. 28.

Green Jr. pleaded not guilty to interference with official acts. A non-jury trial is set for March 21, 2019.

He is also scheduled for a jury trial Nov. 20 in a separate case involving marijuana possession. He pleaded not guilty to that charge.

A Cerro Gordo County deputy discovered two baggies of marijuana under the driver's seat after Green Jr. was pulled over for a driving offense in rural Mason City July 17, according to court documents.
