MASON CITY | A Mason City man was arrested for deliberately causing his shower to leak into his neighbor’s apartment causing and throwing a shower radio at a window after police tried to reason with him, documents said.
Larry Anthony Garcia, 70, is charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, after a series of incidents at an apartment on the 100 block of South Connecticut Avenue.
At 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, Garcia allegedly turned on the shower in a shared bathroom on the second floor of his apartment, pointing the water out of the shower stall and onto the floor.
The water leaked through the floor and into the neighbor's apartment below. The ceiling tiles in the apartment collapsed due to the weight of the water, court documents said.
Mason City Police arrived and “attempted to reason with Larry who refused to talk.”
Police were dispatched back to the apartment about 30 minutes after leaving the first incident.
“The neighbor called to report that Larry had thrown something into the window, that was halfway up the staircase, and turned the shower back on,” court documents said.

According to police, Garcia had turned on the shower, pointed it out of the shower stall onto the floor and had the faucet running in the sink. It appeared that he had thrown his shower radio at the window and broke it, according to the criminal complaint.
The building owner did not wish to pursue charges after the first call but reversed that decision when police returned, according to the criminal complaint.
Officials estimated damage – cleanup, ceiling tiles and a broken window – between $500 and $1,000.
Garcia was booked in Cerro Gordo County Jail at about 6:54 a.m. and is being held on a $2,000 bond.
His initial appearance Tuesday was continued until Thursday "to permit the Defendant to better understand the proceedings,” court documents said.
