MASON CITY - A Mason City man was arrested Thursday for assaulting a woman in a domestic incident and told police that if he'd have "beaten her up good" then she wouldn't have been able to call for help.

At about 3:56 p.m. Thursday, Johnson allegedly walked down the stairs at his residence on the 200 block of 15th Street Northwest where a woman was sitting in a chair and talking on the phone.

According to court documents, Johnson charged at the woman, took the phone and started to assault her.

The woman had several bruises on her face, chest and shoulder and had a hairline fracture on the left side of her nose, Mason City police noted in the criminal complaint.

According to the complaint, Johnson told police he had been angry with the woman a lot lately and that she deserved being assaulted.
