MASON CITY | A man was seriously injured Wednesday night after a vehicle struck him in Mason City.

At about 10:47 p.m. Wednesday, the Mason City Police Department responded to a call for a collision involving a pedestrian at 19th Street Southwest and South Eisenhower.

According to police, a 43-year-old man was walking northbound on the east side of the road when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

The vehicle was driven by Jay Paulsen, 45, of Mason City.

The pedestrian received serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center–North Iowa, police said in a release. Paulsen was uninjured.

“The name of the pedestrian is not being released at this time, pending notification of family members,” the release said.

The incident remains under investigation. Police didn't cite anyone in the crash as of Thursday afternoon.

Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office and the Mason City Fire Department assisted at the scene.
